MIHAELA URSULEASA

Sunday, May 4, 2008 – 3:00 p.m.

Mihaela Ursuleasa is a Vienna-based pianist from Romania who will be making her third appearance with the Chopin Society. Sublime lyricism and a piquant imagination are hallmarks of her glorious artistry. Her career has flourished throughout Europe ever since she won the Clara Haskil Competition in Switzerland at the age of 16. The following year, she appeared with the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra, under the direction of Hugh Wolff, and in 2003 played a Mozart concerto with the Minnesota Orchestra, Osmo Vänska conducting. Her recital will feature the world premiere of an 8-minute piece for solo piano commissioned by the Society and written especially for her by Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Aaron Jay Kernis.
