NELSON GOERNER
Sunday, January 29 – 3:00 p.m. | Sundin Music Hall
Argentinean Nelson Goerner studied at the Buenos Aires Conservatory and in 1986 won First Prize at the Franz Liszt Competition in that city. His talent was spotted by Martha Argerich, who arranged for him to study with Maria Tipo at the Geneva Conservatory. In 1990 he graduated with top honors and won First Prize at the Geneva Competition. His career has since grown steadily and today he performs throughout Europe and the Americas. As chamber musician, he has worked with the Takács Quartet, Steven Isserlis, and Vadim Repin, among others. He also plays duo recitals with his wife, Rusudan Alavidze. Recent recordings include a Chopin recital on the Wigmore Hall Live label that BBC Music Magazine named instrumental 'Choice of the Month.’ Goerner, whom Gramophone has described as ”a player of exalted poetic verve,” will perform the complete Chopin Preludes in his Minnesota debut.

"This young Argentinean pianist…is a marvel. He makes an intense, dark sound ... coupled with highly-focused, extremely earthy playing."
