YULIANNA AVDEEVA

Russian pianist Yulianna Avdeeva became the focus of the world’s arts media in October, 2010 by winning First Prize at the XVI International Frederic Chopin Competition in Warsaw. The first woman to win this competition in 45 years, she was also awarded the Krystian Zimerman Prize for the best performance of a sonata. Born in 1985, she studied in Moscow at the Gnessin School of Music with Elena Ivanova and at the Gnessin Academy with Vladimir Tropp. She also enrolled at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Zurich, where from 2006-09, she served as assistant to Konstantin Scherbakov. Currently she studies at the International Piano Academy Lake Como with Dmitri Bashkirov, Boris Berman, and Fou Ts’ong. Since winning in Warsaw, Avdeeva has debuted in such prominent venues as London’s Southbank Centre and the Mariinsky Theatre in Moscow.
